Hello, The only experience that I have with the newer Mustang's convertible top is replacing the Hydraulic system on a '07 convertible. The 2 door from Europe had already been out for several years. I really don't want to mess around and break any mounting tabs or anything. If you have to replace that then here's a procedure that will be an asset to you: Lower the convertible top. No mention about the air bag safety. Engage the hydraulic line locators on each side.
One other thing that may be useful--you can purchase numbered tape strips. Pair it up with a new instrument cluster to replace your scratched up lens! And like you i broke clips ands took out every screw. There are 6 screws on the 71-72 cars. Position the convertible top motor and hydraulic lift cylinders and install the convertible top motor nuts. If anyone has anything I've forgotten, please chime in!!!! Most of the dash comes out as an assembly. These can be accessed after the inst cluster cover is removed 3. After these screws are out, simply pull the cover towards you, and lift up and it'll come straight out. Don't be a retard like me and break the clips such as I've done.
